IG-88, and the four other Assassin Droids in the IG series were designed to be used as law enforcement tools. They escaped from Halowan Laboratories, where they were made, and killed all the designers who might reveal a flaw in the droids' systems. Assass
in Droids were outlawed at this time. IG-72 became a Bounty Hunter in the Outer Rim territories. The even more daring IG-88 became a Bounty Hunter in the Core systems. Upon being hired by Darth Vader to find Han Solo, IG-88 knew that if he himself could
not find Solo, Boba Fett could. IG-88 planted a homing device on Boba Fett'a ship, Slave I. IG-88 then was unable to get Han from Boba Fett at Bespin, so it went to Tatooine and waited. He placed a decoy ship in orbit around Tatooine, so that when Fett c
ame out of hyperspace, he would go after the decoy, allowing IG-88 to ambush Slave I from behind in his own ship, the IG-2000. When Boba Fett arrived, he attacked and destroyed IG-88's decoy ship. Boba knew it was a decoy and was prepared when IG-88 flew
in to engage the Slave I. Boba Fett stopped his ship, ruining it by using the inertial damper, which stops the ship instantaneously by destroying the largest portions of it, and still mantaining the cockpit. IG-88 flew right past Fett. Boba then fired a
proton torpedo at the IG-2000, blasting it to bits. Few claim to have sighted IG-88 since then.
